Shona's Shabbylicious Flowers - Flying Unicorn

Hi everyone! It is Playdate Thursday at the Flying Unicorn and I have some Shabbylicious flowers for you to make. First off I save bits and pieces of burlap, canvas, trims etc…and these shabby flowers are perfect for those bits and pieces you have.
Here are the supplies for THREE flowers. I used some packaging to cut the 3 circles for the back. Than I cut 3 pieces of everything. Canvas, burlap, some cheese cloth or gauz, some May Arts trims pieces and some frayed bulap pieces.

Next step I did some cuts in the canvas and frayed it up a bit….tip: roll it in your hands to roughen up the look of the canvas pieces.
I also frayed up the burlap circles a bit.
Poke holes in the canvas and cardboard pieces and use an old brad to layer everything on. There is enough here for 3 flowers…so just use one of each for the flowers. Add in some cut pieces of the cheese cloth for added texture and for the last bit wind some of the burlap strands around the brad. See how the piece on the back give it all some stability.
Now you can use them as is…they are just gorgeous flowers but I have added some Shimmerz Coloringz to two of them to show you how easy it is to create your own colors! Just mist them and dry then with your heat tool.
These yummy flowers are now ready to use on your projects! Have a great week everyone!

In the top corner I have used a piece from the Wavy Film Strip set and some of the Chippy Snowflakes! I love how these snowflakes turned out. I just added a punched snowflake on top and used some gels and beads to cover it. Love how the chippys pokes out here and there!

Here are some of the NEW word pieces. There are SOOOO many new ones to choose from in the store too! I also tucked in a piece from the Photo Booth Film Strips set behind the photo. Beach Projects with Fabscraps Beach Affair and Shimmerz

Hi everyone. Today I have a couple of Beach projects to share created with the NEW Fabscraps Beach Affair collection and lots of  yummy Shimmerz in the background. First up is a layout of my cutie pie grandson at the beach.

This Collection is just gorgeous and was perfect for beach projects...look at the fun star fish on the papers, and the cute tags and postcards come with the collection! After I had added my embellishments to the layout I used some “Don’t Be Suede” Coloringz and let it drip a bit..you can see how it altered the white lace to a yummy soft brown color.

I also did some masking in the background with “Marti-Gold Digger Texturez” I just love that mandarine color of it..yummy. The fun banner was fussy cut from the Fabscraps Collection.

After my layout was complete and I covered the photo and added some dops of “Before Dawn Vibez” and “Brass Knuckles Inklingz”.

Next up I have a quick tag I made. The lighthouse is fussy cut from some of the paper in the collection and that cute postcard is also part of it.

First I masked the background and added both “Don’t Be Suede” and “Well Blue Me Down” Coloringz. I just adore these two colors together.

I also love to finish off my projects with little drips or drops of color and here I added “Brass Knuckles” and “Giddy About Green” Inklingz! LOVE that lighthouse piece...its so cute!

Ok that is it for today…such a fun collection to play with! Take care and happy scrapping!

Build a Page with the Flying Unicorn Jan Kit

Hi everyone! I am here today with a Build a Page Tutorial featuring the yummy Flying Unicorn January Your Passion Your Art kits! The Riddersholm papers are truly gorgeous! I have always struggled with dark background myself..so thought this was a great starting point for my BAP. So here we go!

Pick your two sheets of Riddersholm papers from the main kit.

Tear down the right and left sides of the dark paper…keep those strips for later on.

This is the bottom sheet so lets cut out the center to use elsewhere on the layout.

Adhere to two sheets together now.

Lets use those strips now..and also rip that square cut out  piece into strips. Glue to the top and bottom of the layout.

I used a piece of packaging cut about the size of a credit card and applied some gesso on the strips now. Heat set.

Grab the Chocolate Shimmerz and spray on top of the gesso areas…heat set.

The kit has some gorgeous BoBunny Stamps in it…I added some stamping on the top and bottom sections.

Cut a piece of cardboard…distress the photo..and mount it with glue.

I did some masking with a couple of masks from previous kits and some Golden Molding paste.

Look at all the fun pieces to add now.

Glue your photo down and start to layer your embellishments all around it.

Don’t forget to add some to the bottom section as well.

After it was all put together I added some water to the Inklingz, stir it up with a paint brush and just keep dipping in that brush and flicking it on the layout around the embellishments..this helps to make it all pop. TIP: I always like to cover my photo when I do this part…helps from splatters going on it.

The last part of my BAP was to just paint some gesso on the embellishments to make them all blend in. I also used some of the glass glitter with gel for some added glitter. Last thing I did was the 13 ARTS beads...love them!

Here are some close ups…I hope you liked my BAP and give it a try. I know I love the way it turned out and it helped me get over the timidness of creating with a dark background.
